This writing initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of Rondo history and culture. The goal is to inspire the Black community to use the literary arts to promote cultural preservation.

We are inviting all Black creatives living in Minnesota and connected to the Rondo community to share their story with us. We will then turn the winning submissions into children’s picture books to be shared in libraries and classrooms.

It is an opportunity for community members to become reading ambassadors and leaders in their communities.

We welcome submissions before the October 1, 2025 deadline from community members who are:

  • living in MN

  • Black youth and adults

  • connected to the Rondo community

We welcome submissions for an original children’s book:

  • ages 4-8 (300-800 words)

The winner will receive:

  • $1,500

  • 10 copies of the published book

*This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
