What Freedom Really Means

Ghana’s freedom in 1957 was a monumental milestone. March marks 70 years of Ghana’s independence, commemorating the toil of brave men and women who labored and sacrificed their lives for freedom from colonial rule. It was not just a liberation from our dependency on slave masters, but also from the chains that captured our thoughts and bound our hearts and minds. This is our independence! Dr Kwame Nkrumah led this charge. Despite the challenges and hurdles thrown at him, he remained focused and pressed on for the goal set before him. He proclaimed, “Ghana, your beloved country is free forever.” Freedom that brought Ghana to the daylight of knowledge.

A star has erupted. Its light has affected the entire continent of Africa and the world at large. Let us make the most of this knowledge to unlock the vast opportunities this freedom presents. We are all involved in building our motherland.

Let us all unite to uphold her.

Let us leverage literacy to make her great and strong.
