We are excited to announce our 2nd MLK day writing competition in partnership with the Minnesota Twins.

Theme: How can you Be a Drum major for justice?

DEADLINE: Wednesday, March 1, 2023

This writing competition is an opportunity for Minnesota’s young people to tell us how they will be a leader in their communities, their schools, or wherever they are.

We invite all youth to listen to Dr. King’s speech “The Drum Major Instinct,” become inspired to think about what’s in their hands to make a difference, and then write about it.

We welcome submissions before the March 1, 2023 deadline from youth who are:

  • living in MN

  • in K - 5th grade

We welcome less than 1,000 words from any of these categories:

  • fiction or creative fiction

  • prose or poetry

There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner.
