Celebrating Local Creativity and Collective Impact

We’re sending a big thank you to the Collective MN for celebrating local businesses and shining a spotlight on the entrepreneurs, artists, and changemakers who make our communities thrive. Congratulations on the launch of Collective Magazine, Issue 02! Your work is essential to building a more vibrant, inclusive, and equitable economy.

At Planting People Growing Justice (PPGJ) Bookstore, we are honored to be featured among such inspiring local visionaries. We look forward to partnering with the creatives, artists, and entrepreneurs highlighted in this issue to grow our shared impact and continue advancing literacy, leadership, and social justice in our communities.

We are especially proud to share this feature with our fellow One Million Black Women in Business cohort member, Kobi Co.

Spotlight on Kobi Co.

Kobi Co. is a mother-daughter candle company that beautifully blends scent, sound, and self-care. Their hand-poured luxury candles are paired with curated playlists to help you set your vibe and prioritize your well-being. Kobi Co. believes that self-care is non-negotiable, and their creations inspire you to be your best self, do your best work, and show up fully for your community.

Our Mission at PPGJ

At Planting People Growing Justice, we believe that reading is fundamental to education and empowerment. Yet, the reality is stark: only 18% of Black fourth graders are reading at grade level—making them four times more likely not to graduate. Representation matters deeply. Children are more likely to read books when they can see themselves in the stories they read, but today, Black youth are more likely to see a Black dog on a book cover than a Black child.

That’s why we do what we do. PPGJ publishes, promotes, and distributes books that celebrate Black joy, culture, and identity—encouraging and empowering young readers to see themselves as leaders, thinkers, and changemakers.

Together with partners like Collective MN and Kobi Co., we’re building a future where creativity, community, and literacy grow side by side.

Let’s keep planting seeds of justice—one story, one collaboration, and one community at a time.
